  • Obituary: Waycross Journal Herald, Obituary, Willoughby Newton Archibald, 61, a former resident of Waycross, died Saturday night at his home in Jacksonville. A native of Waycross, Archibald was a member of a well-known Ware County family. He was the son of Percy S. Archibald and Celestia Woodard. He had lived in Jacksonville 30 years, having moved there from Waycross. He was a retired yard conductor of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, serving for 30 years with the railroad. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Sara Frances Phillips and Mrs. Louis Ritter both of Jacksonville, and two sisters, Miss Pearle Fairchild, Waycross and Mrs. Gadis Whiteman, Jacksonville; a brother Parker Fairchild Jr., Brunswick; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at four o'clock at Trinity Methodist Church, with the Rev. James B Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Active pallbearers wil be LV Rountree, Lester V Rountree Jr, Edward A Rountree, William J Rountree, WO Mattox Jr., Irving C Alsobrook Jr., Harold Kammerer, and James Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Gidden Riverside Funeral home of Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
