  • Obituary: Alice M. Ward passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, 2016, at Bangor Nursing and Rehab with her family by her side. She was born in Machias on March 9, 1923. Alice was married to John C. Ward, Sr. and they lived in Pembroke for many years until moving to Bangor in 1963. While in Pembroke, Alice was an active member of the Rebeccas and the Pembroke Grange. She was also a member of the Iron Works Methodist Church of Pembroke. She spent her life caring for others and she enjoyed cooking for her family, friends and church. Alice was a licensed practical nurse for many years at Bangor City Hospital, now known as Bangor Nursing and Rehab where she spent the last days of her life. She also did many private duty cases across the state of Maine. Alice was predeceased by her siblings and her husband of 67 years, John C. Ward, Sr., who passed away Feb. 23, 2008. She is survived by children John C. Ward, Jr. and wife, Linda of Pembroke, Mary Alice Jago and husband, Dave of FL, Frances Davis of Bangor, Paula Wilson of Bangor. She helped raise two of her many dear grandchildren, John M. Ward of Surry and James M. Ward of FL. She was a loving grandmother to nine other grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Bangor Nursing and Rehab who took excellent care of Nurse Ward. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Clarkside Cemetery in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Alices memory to Bangor Nursing and Rehab Auxiliary, 103 Texas Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
