He was a veteran of World War II and worked in the Data Processing Department of Newport News Shipbuilding for 3 decades before being employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Helen Osterhaus Hargrave, he is survived by his 4 children: Dale Hargrave, Janet Hargrave, Karl Hargrave and his wife Camila, John Hargrave and his wife Debra, in addition to 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. A graveside service will take place at the Peninsula Memorial Park at Noon on Wednesday.
