  • Obituary: Ralph Strickland Heilman, 92 died peacefully Saturday, December 17, 2016 following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 18 years, Nancy (Cohn) Weinberg-Heilman; his children W. Strickland Heilman (Mary), Carmany H. Thorp (Erik) and Marguerite Heilman; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his stepchildren Jonathan Weinberg (Kate) and Stephen Weinberg (Kathleen); 4 step grandchildren; and his sister, Mary H. Althoff. Born in Evanston, Illinois on August 24, 1924, the son of Wesley P. Heilman and Martha M. Strickland, Mr. Heilman was a long-time resident of Chappaqua, NY and Somers, NY. He graduated from Horace Greeley High School in 1942 and Hobart College in 1948 where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He served his country in the Army and Air Force from 1943-1951 and had a long career in wholesale paper sales, based in New York, NY. Mr. Heilman generously volunteered his time, expertise and humor to his many communities including: the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Chappaqua, NY, the Chappaqua Fire Department, the New Castle Historical Society, the Metropolitan Golf Association, the US Ski Association and the Board of Managers for Heritage Hills Condo 2. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary the Virgin in Chappaqua, NY in the coming spring.
