  • Obituary: Georgie Emelyn Phinney - 88, of Kentville, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at home. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Lockhart and Grace (Munro) Palmeter. She was a lifetime member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville, where she was active in the U.C.W. and the choir and provided pastoral care. She was a longtime leader with Girl Guides of Canada and spent many summers involved with Hardwood Lake Camp. She was an honorary member of the I.O.D.E., Olympic Chapter, an honorary member of the Valley Gardeners and a member of the Evangeline Chapter 15, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served many years as the organist. Georgie represented the Annapolis Valley as Queen Annapolisa XIV and a devoted community volunteer. She gave endlessly and tirelessly of herself and her kindness and generosity to others will never be forgotten. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Lockhart and Donald; three sisters, Margaret Eaton, Jean Corey and Dorothy Walker; former husband, R. Wendell Phinney (October 2011). She will be sadly missed by her devoted daughter, Joan (Steve Cochrane), Windsor. In addition, she is survived by a son, Bruce (Gretchen), Halifax; a granddaughter, Evan. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A combined Order of the Eastern Star service and funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 in the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiating. Burial will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Thank you to all the family, friends and caring neighbours who assisted with supporting Mom the past few years. A special thank-you to the caring staff of the V.O.N. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
