  • Obituary: Juliet Margaret (Pierce) Kelsey passed away on Friday, February 28, 2003 at GVS Perkins Pavilion in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 79. Juliet was born on August 28, 1923 in Fort Lupton, the daughter of Ira Louis and Lillie Alice (Barnebey) Pierce. She attended first grade in Des Moines, Iowa before moving to a farm south of Haxtun. She attended Highland Center School for seven years, and then graduated from Haxtun High School in 1941. After spending a year caring for Art Lueth's daughters after the death of their mother, Juliet enrolled in Barnes Business College in Denver. She completed her studies before taking a job at Gates Rubber Company, also in Denver. On April 17, 1942 she married Stephen H. Kelsey who was at the time stationed at Lowery Air Force Base II. She later joined her husband in Laredo, Texas until he went overseas. Juliet later returned to Haxtun to stay with her parents. After the war, the family moved back to Denver for a time before moving to Steve's home state of Massachusetts. The family then returned to Haxtun where they lived for a number of years. They then moved to Julesburg where Juliet worked at the Corner Drug Store. She later commuted to Ogallala where she was employed by TR&W. The company transferred her to McCook and she continued to work for the company until her retirement in 1986. Juliet then moved to Hastings to be near her son, and she established her home in the Goldbeck Towers where she lived for the remainder of her life. Haxtun-Fleming Herald Haxtun,CO March 12, 2003
