  • Obituary: Archibald, Ronald Ross - 82, Brookfield, passed away at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro on Friday, February 5, 2010. Born at the Archibald family farm at Shortt's Lake, he was a son of the late Wendall and Esther (Bates) Archibald. Ronald left the family farm to be employed with the local Farmer's Co-operative Store in Brookfield. He saw the need to start a freight business, hauling cans of milk from local farmers to the Farmers Dairy in Halifax. This route and busy schedule lasted for many years. When bulk milk transport replaced the milk cans, Ronald kept his business thriving by hauling freight with his two trucks, from Halifax to Truro, for his numerous customers and daily deliveries. This gave him many fond memories of the many miles he travelled and especially the people he met. He obtained an award from Nova Scotia Department of Highway Safety for 40 years of accident free driving while accumulating over 2 million driving miles. Ronald loved his dogs, horses and his vegetable garden. He was a life long member of the Knox United Church, Brookfield, having served on the Board of Stewarts in his younger years. He loved camping at Seafoam on the Brule Shore. His mechanical teachings and his values of life especially, to work properly, "getting the job done right," has been followed by his son, Larry. Ronald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gladys M. (Ellis), formerly of Stewiacke; son, Larry (Carol), Hantsport, N.S.; sister, Thelma, Dartmouth. Ronald was predeceased by brothers, Willard, Ivan and Stuart. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Palliative Care Team at Colchester Regional Hospital, staff and nurses whom all helped Dad during his battle with Cancer. We personally thank, Dr. Courtney Smith and Dawn Martell for all that you have done and to all the family, friends, and Rev. Larry Harrison who assisted us during this difficult time. Visitation will be held from 3-4 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m., on Sunday, February 7th both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Spring interment in the Brookfield Cemetery. If so desired, donations can be made to the Brookfield Knox United Church or to a charity of choice.
