Mr. Hatch was born on August 31, 1918 in Wheeler, Oregon, the son of Edwin and Helen Hatch. He was educated in rural Oregon schools and ultimately graduated from Oregon State University. When the United States entered WWII Earle joined the Navy and was stationed in Santa Barbara where he was present during the commissioning of the Naval Reserve Center thus earning the distinction of being a "Plank Owner". He later saw action in the Pacific Theater and was discharged as a Chief Petty Officer and continued his patriotism through his words and actions for the remainder of his life. He met and married Elizabeth Parker in Santa Barbara and together they celebrated each of the 62 years of their marriage until Elizabeth passed away on March 17, 2005. Earle was a resident of Solvang for decades and was involved in many community activities including, among others, the Rotary Club, the school board, hospital board, volunteer fire department and perhaps his most favoriteā¦.his 16 years of service to the Solvang Municipal Improvement District, the local form of government which predated Solvang's incorporation. When Earle retired, he and Elizabeth moved to San Francisco we he lived until the passing of Elizabeth and in 2005 he moved to Santa Maria where he enjoyed the company of his family. Earle is survived by a daughter, Sally Whelan and her husband, Patrick, of Crooked River Ranch, OR; a son, Robert Hatch and his wife, Teresa, of Santa Maria; and a daughter, Janice Sanders of Medford, OR. He is also survived by granddaughters, Melanie Goodno and her husband Dale, Erica (Hatch) Stevens and her husband David, Elizabeth Hatch, and Jeanette Green. Also surviving are grandsons, Michael Hasu and his wife Christine, Isaac and Peter Sanders, Robert Earle Hatch II and great granddaughters, Lauren Goodno, Haylie Hasu and Kyla Sanders; and great grandson, Matthew Goodno. At Earle's request no services will be held and a private memorial celebration of his life is forthcoming.
