Beloved wife of the late John E. Cartwright (2000). Marie is survived by her children Beth (Weehawken, New Jersey), Helen (St.Thomas), Richard (St.Thomas), and Catherine Maas (Jody; Milton, ON), grandchildren Charlotte Vanderheyden and Abigail Maas, and great-grandchildren Aiden Willoughby and Ava Ashelby, her sister Florence Dawn Hembling (Whitby) and brother Robert (Halifax). She was predeceased by brothers Harold, Ralph, Carroll, Jr, Ernest, Gerald, and Paul Bruce. Marie was born on April 21, 1932 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis County, NS, the daughter of the late Carroll and Florence (neé Holmes) Gilliatt. Marie grew up on the family farm in Granville Centre, NS. While her husband was in the Canadian Army, the family moved to several places including Penfield Ridge and Saint John, NB; Soest, West Germany, and London, ON. In 1973, they came to St.Thomas. She liked to watch the cardinals outside the kitchen window. Her baking was well-liked in particular at Christmas. This was the only time that she made deep-fried cake doughnuts. Marie enjoyed cosmos flowers in her garden which attracted yellow finches. The family would like to thank the Personal Support Workers who helped her since 2013. The funeral will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St, St. Thomas on Saturday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Diabetes Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation or CNIB.
