  • Obituary: MISSOULA\emdash Darwin Cockrell, Jr., 78, of Missoula, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2005, at Community Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 3, 1927, in Oakland, CA, the son of Julia (Agnew) Cockrell and Darwin Cockrell, Sr. Darwin served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked as a painter for the physical plant at the University of Montana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile; a son, Darwin, III; a sister, Minnie Bateman; and his parents. Darwin's family includes his four children, Julie (Duane) Garfield, David D. Cockrell, Theresa A. Cockrell and Leila A. Cockrell, all of Missoula; seven grandchildren, Leah (James Garrison) Garfield, Matthew Garfield, Dustin Darwin Cockrell, Chris Zeigler, Anneay Cockrell, Eryn Yule and Devin Bond; two great-grandchildren, Trevor Allen and Shyla Garrison; brother, George (Margaret) Cockrell and sister, Clarissa Breier; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at South Hills Evangelical Church.
