  • Obituary: DESPONDENT WOMAN TAKES HER OWN LIFE Apparently despondent over ill health, Muriel Joy Shaw Brown, 48, wife of Donald Watson Brown, and member of a widely known San Bernardino family, shot and fatally wounded herself at her home, 1032 Arrowhead Avenue, at 3 a.m. yesterday, according to Coroner R. E. Williams. Mrs. Brown died at the county hospital at 4:25 a.m. She was the daughter of the late Mark B. Shaw, Baptist minister and founder of Mark B. Shaw Co. and the late Antoinette Shaw. Mr. Brown, employee of the Pacific Electric Co., said Mrs. Brown underwent an operation last October and had been in ill health since. He said she had also been grieving over two recent deaths in the family. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brown is survived by one son, Donald Shaw Brown, employed by an electric company in Los Angeles; two brothers, Douglas M. Shaw of San Bernardino and W. Bartlett of Buena Park, and one sister, Mrs. Emily Hayward of San Bernardino. She was a native of Ontario and came to San Bernardino when she was 1 year old. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Mark B. Shaw Memorial Chapel with interment in Mountain View Cemetery. The L. M. Knopsnyder & Son Mortuary of Colton in in charge of arrangements.
