  • Obituary: HALIFAX HERALD '96 29 JAN 2002 CARTER, Norman Eugene "Nick" - 74, 129 Forest Hill Dr., Truro, passed away January 28, 2002, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Lower Truro, he was a son of the late Norman and Sadie (Logan) Carter. Nick was a member and an honorary elder of Brunswick Street United Church. For over 20 years, he volunteered at the Colchester Food Bank. He worked for the CN Railway as a trainman from 1951 until retirement in 1983. He was a jeweler from 1943-1981 and was also the owner of N.E. Carter Jewelry Ltd. Nick retired at age 56 to enjoy a wonderful family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Cruickshank; daughters, Elaine (Robert) Archibald, Hilden; Sharon Carter (Ken Crocker), Truro; sons, Ian (Trish McMurray), Vancouver; Brian (Joyce), Fall River; grandchildren, Rick, Dusty, Jason, Ryan, Nicholas, Mike, Kevin, Kaitlin, Brittany, Colin, Emily, Natalie, Amy; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Ashley, Cassandra; brother, Gordon (Eleanor), Toronto; sisters, Theda MacKenzie, Shirley (Vernon) Geddes, all of Truro; Ada (Robert) Ritchie, New Hampshire; Betty (Arthur) Ash, Truro Heights; daughter-in-law, Dianne Carter, Maple Ridge, B.C.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Roy, Howard, Jack, Logan; sisters, Inez, Eileen, Audrey, Greta, Carol. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Rev. Karen MacNeill officiating. Burial at a later date in Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Brunswick Street United Church or a charity of your personal choice.
