Frances was born in Erith Kent, England, located in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. During World War II, Frances worked in England as a "bomb girl", and during which time she fell in love and married Harley Hiltz. Frances gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Anne in March 1946. Frances and Anne came to Canada on the Queen Mary, disembarking at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1946, the last voyage of the Canadian war brides. They travelled to Factorydale, Nova Scotia and moved in with Emma, Frances' new mother-in-law, awaiting Harley's arrival back to Canada. While waiting for Harley, Frances worked as an egg grader. In the mid 1960's, Frances worked as a house keeper at the Halifax Infirmary, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Frances had lived many places during her long life. Within Nova Scotia, she moved from Factorydale to Spryfield, then to Bedford, then back to Spryfield, and then to Mulgrave Park. They lived with Aunt Bine, in Aylesford for a while, then took up residence in Halifax. When Emma passed away, Frances and family moved to the old homestead in Factorydale. After living there for a few years, they moved to Cole Harbour. Shortly after Harley passed away in 1985, France moved in with her daughter, Anne and her husband, Gordon. In the late 1980's Frances travelled to Germany to live with her youngest daughter, Lilian and her family for three years. After Germany, Frances moved back to Nova Scotia and in the early 1990's, moved to the village of Gagetown, New Brunswick to spend time with her youngest daughter until she passed away late last week. Frances enjoyed gardening, knitting, cooking, artex, playing crib for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #71, and doing puzzles. She also loved to camp, spending many hours around the camp fire with family and friends. She is survived by her loving children, Anne Schultz (Gordon), Frank Hiltz (Bev), Florence Delisle (Conrad), and Lilian DeViller (Michael). Frances is lovingly remembered by her 14 grandchildren, Raymond (Cathy), David, Lawrence (Trisha), Frankie, Sherri, Jason Martin, Cody, Kyle, Caitlyn, Sharon (Michael), Terilynn (Dan), Celsey, Jeffrey, and Stephanie (Christopher); 14 great grandchildren, Kierstan, Emma, Corrina, Frankie, Rickie, Sydney, Dakota, Lexis, Tyler, Zachary, Avalon, Pheonix, Kaidra, and Fable; and 1 great great grandchild. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Harley Palmer Hiltz. A memorial service will be held in Morristown Cemetery, Morristown, Nova Scotia.
