She died on August 26, 2013. She leaves behind her son, Kim (Annie) Strong; her daughter, Susan (Bill) Mahar; her son, Rick (Sindy) Strong, and her daughter, Lisa Strong (Peter Simmons). She is also survived by her brothers, Paul and Hugh Aker; her sister, Verna Bennett, as well as eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Strong; her mother, Evangeline Aker; and her brother Joe. Pauline spent the majority of her life raising children. Children and family formed the centre of her life's story. She babysat her nieces before she had children, raised her own four and during that time, and for many years afterward, she provided in-home care for working parents. She babysat for all four of her children, for friends and neighbours. There are many adults today who spent their childhood days in Polly's house. She was a lasting influence on many. In her free time she liked to cook, garden, do crafts, and go to yard sales \endash she loved a bargain! Her Sunday family dinners were legendary. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Afterward, the family will be pleased to have you join them at Polly's home (25 Lynwood Avenue, Kentville), for refreshments and conversation.
