Leslie Comstock, OD, 83, 163 Brook Street, Lunenburg, died Saturday, January 24, 1998, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Frank and Laura (Rainsforth) Comstock. He attended two years of pre-medical training in dentistry at Acadia University and then moved to Boston, where he received his doctor of optometry from Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1936. He then moved to Berwick to practice, and later served as lieutenant with the Canadian Army during the Second World War. After the war, he moved to Lunenburg in 1948 to continue practicing optometry, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg; past president of Lunenburg Gold Club, Lunenburg Curling Club and Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists. He was a founding member and band leader of the Highliners Orchestra for many years and was a member of Central United Church, Lunenburg. He is survived by his companion, Ruby Tedford; daughters, Jill Comstock-Smith and husband Kim Smith, Lunenburg; Wendy and husband Kevin Mayo, First Peninsula; sons, Christopher and wife Karen, Spectacle Lake; Peter and wife Susan, Lunenburg; sister, Mrs. Frances Turner, Windsor; half-brother, Hubert, Sarnia, Ontario and Florida; 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Margaret Jean Nichols; sister, Marion Hamilton-Catty. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Central United Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Robyn Brown-Hewitt officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or any other charity. Arrangements entrusted to Dana L.
